The ROK and US issue a joint statement confirming the following:
1. US is unequivocally committed to the defense of the ROK
2. ROK and the US are both concerned with the instability in the North, and as a result, are putting troops in a state of heightened defense alert, although we both hope for peaceful resolution of the current crisis.
Additionally, the ROK wishes to reaffirm its commitment to joint economic cooperation with the North.
